Where to report crypto scams
Where to report crypto theft, phishing sites, scam addresses and impersonation accounts, by country and by type of report.
On this page
Reporting rarely brings stolen crypto back quickly, but it matters. Police reports are needed by exchanges and investigators, and reports of phishing sites get them blocked in browsers and wallets before they reach more people.
Report the crime
- United States: the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov and the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- United Kingdom: the national fraud reporting service through the police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, or Police Scotland.
- Canada: the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
- Australia: ReportCyber at cyber.gov.au and Scamwatch.
- Elsewhere: your national police or cybercrime unit. Many countries have an online form for fraud.
Include your wallet address, the scammer's addresses, transaction IDs, website addresses, screenshots of messages and a timeline.
Report the phishing website
These reports feed the blocklists used by browsers, email providers and security tools:
- Google Safe Browsing: report a phishing page.
- Microsoft: report an unsafe site.
- Netcraft: report a malicious site.
- Crypto wallet blocklists: several wallets accept reports, for example MetaMask's public phishing detection list.
- The domain registrar and hosting provider: find them with ICANN lookup and use their abuse contact.
Report scam addresses
- Chainabuse collects reports of scam and theft addresses across chains.
- Block explorers often allow you to flag or comment on addresses.
- The receiving exchange: if funds moved to a known exchange, contact its official support. Exchanges can sometimes freeze funds while a case is investigated.
Report impersonation accounts
Use the built-in report function on the platform:
- X: report the account for impersonation.
- Telegram: report the account or group in the app.
- Discord: report the user or server to Trust & Safety.
Also tell the impersonated project through its official channels, so it can warn its users.
What to expect
You may hear nothing back for a long time. That does not mean the report was useless. And anyone who contacts you after a report promising to return your funds for a fee is a scammer. See recovery scams.
